I can’t stop thinking about this book, it’s lives with me forever! I love the birds and the sea. It’s just SO rich and every word serves a purpose.

Beautiful and heartbreaking. The romance was thrilling. There is a deep sense of melancholy throughout this book that can only be truly understood by women who exist outside of societal conventions. This being so, I saw the worst parts of myself in Edna. This is a product of its time, however; this would be a perfect book to me if the descriptions of people of color weren’t so brash and rooted in southern racism.

Interesting to read a novel ahead of its time, and reflect on where we are now. I enjoyed this quick read, but was happy to be reading it on holiday where it threatened to depress me less.

liked how Chopin depicted Edna in a multifaceted way, the prose was quite beautiful. Hated the ending though!
