Oh my God, that book was bad, man. Despite being the best character writer I've ever read, I don't give a rat's ass about 95% of the characters, apart from Sedric and Alise. The pacing and plot were a dumpster fire, nothing fucking happens in this book. This could have been an epilogue chapter to Dragon Keeper, and I would have preferred that immensely. I need a break from this series, it's bad man.

This is the second book in the Rain Wild Chronicles and clearly more the second half of the first book, Dragon Keeper, than a book on its own. I was curious as to why Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings consisted of all trilogies except for these four. It seems the reason is, I suspect anyway, the first book got to be too long and they broke it into two shorter books. Dragon Keeper did not have much of an ending, while this book brings an ending to the first part of this story.

Either of these two books taken separately are unsatisfying, I’d give three stars. Together as one story in two parts, its worthy of four stars. 

Hobb again excels in putting characters in difficult situations and faced with uneasy choices. As readers we can understand motivations of different characters even when they come in conflict. Hobb’s characters are fleshed out and jump off the page.

Overall, a solid entry.

I'm gonna be honest the way that decisions about sex are treated in this book suck shit. tats sucks "if you don't sleep with me it's because you don't love me" / "people who love each other don't say no" that's simply rape actually!!! why are almost all of the men like this!! just like in liveship traders!!
