a short book that tells the story of how her romance with a married man becomes obsessive to the point of having twisted thoughts that practically consume her life itself.

I got what the writer was getting at, I understand her intention behind this unhealthy, one-way, irrational love.

it was my FIRST encounter with Ernaux's writing, and while it was often uncomfortable to read, I don't rule out continuing some of her work.

Okay, so it's a little obsessive but hey, we've all been there. Ernaux writes what the rest of us experience but are too ashamed to admit. Read it in the original French... it makes it seem less creepy and more passionate.
