There’s lots of ways to help people. There’s lots of people to help. Why this? Why do you want to fix their problems?”

I didn’t know what to say to that, so I said the only thing that came to mind.

“Because I can fix their problems.”

This was such a fun and emotional book that I wish I liked more. The story is a very common one executed in a unique manner; a girl who can't solve her own problems distracts herself by solving everyone else's.

The characters are really likable (minus Holly—she was such an annoying hypocrite, every time she appeared, I prayed Meabh would kill her right there and then), and they go through a lot of relatable stuff like bullying, alcoholic parents, toxic friendships... you get the gist.

I don't think the author does a bad job portraying this or anything of the sort; it’s just the conclusion that is lacking. Only 1/4 of the issues the characters go through are resolved in a satisfying manner (and that is being generous), and the rest are shoved down your throat in the last 15 pages or directly not shown at all.

The romance was cute, I guess. It doesn't play that big of a part, so I suppose I'll refrain from saying it was undercooked. It feels very teenagerish; maybe that's why they got together in like a month, tops, of being actual friends.

I care a lot about good endings (and well-developed romance), so realistically, I should be harsher, but I love Kavi. This book was funny in a juvenile way without being cringey, and Kristen Stewart was mentioned—that's enough for me.

100% recommended if you are a lesbian overachiever or a lesbian underachiever; otherwise, maybe skip this one.

I think I misunderstood the synopsis so I got less from this book than I wanted.
Aideen's problems didn't get solved ;-; (I guess technically there's a start but idk)

Aside from above, overall very funny.

“Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is ask for help. Admitting you need it doesn’t make you weak; it makes you strong.”

This was really good. All the interactions between the characters were really nice. My heart broke for Aideen in her nuanced feelings with her mother: love, betrayal and the paranoia brought on by the fear of losing her to alcohol again.

Maebh and Aideen were really cute! I liked that they were both girls who were already comfortable in their sexuality. I was surprised that with Maebh’s personality that she’d be so confident about it but regardless I liked it.

With Holly, I don’t think she was that bad of a friend. When Aideen was struggling, Holly told Aideen to come round hers straight away and comforted her. They had issues and Holly was acting up, particularly with Maebh, but I feel like they could create a healthy relationship out of it.

This became my favourite book in an instant. Caught me from the very beginning. The strangest individuals find common ground by helping others with their problems, which seem just too great to overcome themselves. I just love how so many different young people learn to go out of their way to help another teenager they haven't even talked to before, even though they've gone to the same school, possibly even the same class, for years. They learn that while asking for help is one of the hardest things in life, offering help can be so very easy.

A fairly light read (despite some of the topics it covers) and at parts I did chuckle to myself out loud. It’s a nice mix of serious issue and humour. Didn’t quite have me unable to put the book down but was kept me captivated throughout.

Funny and sweet! The characters were very lovable and it was a joy to see them interacting. The story also touches on serious topics like alcoholism and child neglect, which show the effects on the child. It's beautiful to see her growth throughout the story though.
