I’m a sucker for epistolary, homesteading books. A fan of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and this is a true account of similar, older lifestyle of the West. I find them interesting. The positivity of this woman is beyond me though. She truly was made for homesteading.

I have spent this past year reading several books about pioneer life on the Great Plains and usually end up thankful that I was not born a pioneer. Letters of a Woman Homesteader may have changed my mind. Elinore Pruitt Stewart, through her correspondence with a former employer, has written an uplifting, refreshing series of actual letters about her life homesteading in the wilderness of Wyoming in the late 1800s. What captivated this reader is Elinore's joy of life and how excited she was living her dream of homesteading. She almost had this "city slicker" wishing she could go back in time and experience life in a rustic cabin in the mountains - almost. Highly recommend.

This book was painful. I am just not interested in western ranch life in the early 1900s. Was trying to branch out of what I normally read.
Not for me. Didn't feel connected to any of the characters, and I was just apathetic to what was going on.

It was all right, I guess. Stewart keeps on doing a thing where she suddenly has a new baby and you're like, wot? This is a different one from the baby mentioned three letters ago? Like Watson and his wives!
Think it'd probably be good to read for research if you were going to write in that era, from the POV of that kind of person. Racism typical of the period, though even so I was weirded out by a little contest she holds for the best chocolate-covered representation of a black person. ...
Useful info: they had phonographs at that time and in that sort of place.
