I was asked to review you this...but I truly did love this book. I'll post my formal review on here tomorrow as well as on my blog.

Wow! I was supposed to post my review on here eight weeks ago. :( Don't know how I didn't.

Here's part of my review: I read the synopsis for this novel and was really excited to read it and then I got swamped with book reviews I have to review for work and so it got lost in the shuffle.

What was I thinking? Please, somebody tell me why on earth I'd put such a beautifully written book off for so long.

The writing was absolutely beautiful. I loved Alyssa's style. She literally had me hooked form the very first page to the very last page. I couldn't stop reading. I simply had to finish this novel.

Charlotte and Kevin were narrators that I absolutely adored from the very beginning. I also loved the full cast of characters, Calvin, Monty, Liam, and various other characters that you'll meet within the novel. I simply loved the characters in this novel.

Lately, I've read a few books with endings that annoyed me. This novel left me feeling both satisfied and longing for more. I can't wait to see Alyssa's next novel Perilous Light in her Afterglow trilogy. Definitely one I'll be keeping my eye on.

This book is trash. But because I am who I am, I now have to read the rest to see how it turns out. Bah.

"Don't worry Charlotte. No matter what everyone else sees, you will always have the afterglow."

I am actually glad that when I'm searching for some books to read here in Goodreads, I found this one.
This book is one of those books that are great, amazing and fascinating to read. I felt it.

Easy read. 256 pages.
Will send you to a whole new world. Secret garden. Woooahh.
Magical. Really magical.
The heroine is like the Avatar. (Not the blue one). She can control the elements and more. And a reader.
There is a war. And I liked that. Dystopia-thingy. LOL
Other characters has well-developed role. Connected in a way you won't expect.
Plot twists. Unpredictable.
I am not just into insta-love. HAHAHA!

5/5 stars. No doubt.

Beckoning Light got me excited about reading again. I have been so busy lately, and the past few review books that I have picked up have been kind of eh for me. Not that they were bad, but they just didn't get me excited like truly awesome books do. I was in kind of a reading slump. But boy did that change when I picked up Beckoning Light. I knew when I was only 6 pages in, and I got super annoyed that my mom tried interrupted my reading with a silly question, that I was really going to love this book. From the moment I picked up Beckoning Light, I could not stop reading. I was hooked.

Charlotte is a girl after my own heart. Shy to the core, and such a good person. Those are the kind of people, and characters, that I like. Some people may find them a bit boring, but not me! Plus, she has some spunky in her. You can be a good person and still be sassy. :) There are a bunch of guys that like Charlotte, but I only had eyes for Liam. He is a loyal guy- my favorite kind.

James was funny in his own way. I appreciate how straight forward he is. He doesn't even try to play mind games, he just lays all his cards out on the table. In an obvious, yet sneaky way. I know that sounds strange but you will know what I mean after you meet him. And Calvin, well I just see him as weak. I like him and I think everything that surrounds him is fascinating but I am not completely sold on him yet.

I loved seeing how strong and confident Charlotte has become. She is a smart, level headed girl and I am totally rooting for her! I can't wait to see what is going to happen next. I am so tempted to start reading book 2 right now, even though I have to be up early for work tomorrow morning. I'm also keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for some Liam/Charlotte action in the next book. This is one of my favorite books that I have read this year.

Charlotte is kind of a loner, where her brother, Kevin is kind of the more popular one that is always going to parties and loves playing on sports teams. Charlotte does not want any part of any kind of teams and she never goes to parties even when her brother throws them at her own house. she just stays in her room reading or playing her cello.

After living in Alaska for the past three years, Charlotte and her brother move back to their home town of Charleston, NC. This is when Charlotte starts having strange dreams about the gate in her mother's garden. The exact gate that as a child she and her brother were told to never go near and stay as far away from it as possible. Charlotte never thought anything about it until now and she has a strange pull to find out more about what is on the other side of that gate.

There are many unique characters that each have their own place in this story. My favorite is Liam. Liam is Kevin's best friend and also the person that Charlotte had always had a huge crush on. I think Liam really cares for Charlotte and always is looking out for her. I also think that there could possibly be a romance between the two, hopefully in the next book!

Ms. Ivy's writing style was very easy to follow and I look forward to reading Perilous light.
