This is one of my favorites. I love the journey he takes. I love the interviews with all the people he comes across. Little moments of history, of people’s lives. I love them all.

I can't even describe this book. Not a travelogue, more of a journey across country, and past the crossroads of this man's life. Definitely recommended for those who love really beautiful writing.

This is one of the great "travelling to discover America" stories ever written. Highly recommended to all who have wanderlust, and all who want to discover the true America, though the eyes of a wonderful writer with unwelcome native heritage.

I honestly just didn't give this book a chance. It was a bit dry and I had another book I really wanted to get to so I gave up on it.

Wow! Loved this book. The lyrical way it was written to all the interesting facts and tidbits along the way. Amazing book!

I give up. I hate it. This guy traveled to the Outer Banks in the late 70s/early 80s and called it “the Banks”? Spelled Nags Head incorrectly? “Two highways and four towns”? And Kill Devil Hills is literally a town at the time, the Ramada Inn is not in Nags Head. If he gets this much shit wrong in 3 pages, what else is he wrong about. Holy shit.
