Re-visiting this story as an adult I can see how it influenced my tender heart and love of animals as a youth. Humans are capable of such amazing kindness and such unfathomable cruelty. I always wanted to be one of the good ones.

I was so afraid to read this because I don't want to read about animal abuse. Thankfully, I still did anyway. I got lots of knowledge about horses. I can never look at horses the same way again... to me they are now creatures that feel 💛🐎
