Really more 4 1/2 stars for me. Tana French's books are excellent. This one is darker than the previous Dublin Murder Squad books but done oh so well. Detective Scorcher Kennedy (awesome nickname BTW) lands a murder case that involves a whole family. At first glance, it looks like an easy one, but soon the possibilities open up as to what happened and why. Really interesting and unique angle on how the husband and wife slowly and undoubtedly break after hitting tough times. Kennedy's personal life comes into play in how he handles the case as well. Tough ending but necessary.

Loved the characters in this book but I am not totally convinced that the ending was believable...will read more as I do love her writing and her character building.

It kept me on the edge of my seat. Not just the murder, but what was going on in that house and Mike’s private situation. It reminded me so much of the first one in the series: In the woods.

I love how we stay in the same place, but every book is completely different because of the protagonist. I’m completely hooked on these books. The endings aren’t always the best but I honestly couldn’t come up with anything better. It probably feels like this because it doesn’t satisfy the human need for closure, or a ‘happy’ ending. But that’s what life is like.

all the murder squad books I have read so far have such complex intertwined characters and storylines, with such building feeling of dread and tension. Its really interesting how bit players from one book become the new central character for the next. They are hard to put down.

I am a French fan but this was pretty meh. Very long winded back story that didn’t add anything to the plot.
