I feel so many things for this book.
The whole situation between Gemma and Nick was the absolute dumbest thing I've read in months. Why would a whole town feel bad for them and not Ava? To me that is just so unbelievable, so it just really took me out of the story. Like I already thought the explanation was pretty bogus, but that was just dumb as hell. Why would anyone care that Ava never forgave Gemma Who in their right mind would? Why the hell would I forgave such a huge betrayal because at the end of the day Nick is a man so what do we expect but Gemma was like a sister to Ava?? Maybe it's because I could never forgive or feel sorry for someone like Gemma, but I don't understand why Ava feels anything towards her. Like yeah sorry she died, but not sorry for anything else. Everything else she deserved, especially Nick.
But even without this bogus storyline I was never going to like this book because of Ava and Caleb. I like a controlling, fast and lustful storyline as much as the next person, but it needs to know when to die off and this thing just kept going and going. There chemistry was not hot or interesting enough for this to go on and on. They needed something more than just sexual tension. Even when they were meant to be soft, loving and open towards each other it just felt forced. The way he talked about her and the way she liked to take care of her appearance was really upsetting and was never going to let me like him. So, because she likes to dress up all the time, she's a bad person? Please be serious. Super misogynistic and gross.
Then the Carrisa storyline happened and that really just let me know I was right in thinking all this because what the fuck was that?!? Okay, so they set up this woman to be a bad person, so they paint her to be vapid, gold-digging and selfish which okay because this happens all the time in media, it's an easy character to hate. But then the "big reason" he hates her and can never love again is because she got an abortion and didn't tell him until after it was done. I don't care how vapid a person is, the last thing I'm about to do is judge them for doing what they want with their body. Yes, he wanted the child, but it wasn't his decision to make. To make her out to be a monster because she did not want to have a child is so insane, I can't even describe my anger towards it. Calling her "the deplorable ex" set me the hell off

If that had not been introduced in the last 20% of the book this would have been my first DNF ever.
Also, her literal boss helping him to see her again on the plane at the end was super weird. Why would your boss do that, like what an unsafe thing to do.

This book was just so bad. The crazy part is I loved her book A Cosmic Kind of Love.
Justice for Leo.

Crying score: please be serious.

would’ve been a lot higher if it wasn’t for the whole
wah wah she killed my baby
bullshit. i was EXTREMELY close to DNFing but i was like 80% in and i hate quitting i’m way too nosy.

the hero was a dick but he was starting to grow on me until that point and after he just became unbearable!! i can deal with cruel mmcs but in this genre it felt weird for him to be so consistently mean with very little grovel. if it was fantasy e2l/dark romance/etc i wouldn’t give a shit but i can’t suspend my disbelief here so i didn’t like it it just ruined the book for me.

to end this on a good note i really loved harper and her friendship with ava (and really enjoyed the writing otherwise) so it’s not all bad!

A blatantly anti-choice amount of rhetoric at the end of this book and I wish I'd never read it.

I saw this book on Booktok and was wondering if it was worth the hype. My wonderful friends got me this for my 22nd birthday. Let’s just say this was a super easy, light read that deals with some heavy topics such a domestic violence, grief and toxic relationships well.

This book follows Ava Breevort, she thinks the universe is conspiring against. She is forced to return to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend and she thinks the worse is over, until she gets to the airport and finds out a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas has delayed her flight back to Boston. Her last attempt to salvage the trip was destroyed by arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott who takes the last first-class seat out from under her. Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava’s ever had.  Ava thinks that is the last time she will see Caleb and he will be forever known as the guy she had the best sex with . . . until Caleb shows up on her doorstep. When pure chance pulls Ava back into Caleb’s orbit, he proposes they enjoy their friends with benefits whilst he is stranded in Boston. Ava agrees, knowing her hearts in no danger since she can barely stand Caleb and his existence in her life is temporary. Not long after they started this arrangement Ava realizes she’s made a terrible error because as it’s turns out Caleb Scott isn’t so unlikeable after all. When his stay in Boston becomes permanent, Ava must decide whether to fight her feelings for him or give into them.

I want a Caleb please and thank you. I thought he was hilarious and smoking hot and so overprotective but also wants Eva to realise her full potential and have fun whilst doing it. I thought this storyline was slightly cheesy but in a way that makes me want more and made me slightly addicted. I loved all the characters in this book (except Vince, F You Vince and Nick, he can go and screw himself.). I loved the constantly internal debate that Ava was having, like yes, this man is the best sex I ever had, but he’s an arse and I don’t want him more than that. I think Harper is a kick-ass woman and I would die for her.

I would love to see another book in this series like the Twisted Series by Ana Huang, where we see another character from this universe get the HEA they deserve (I want Harper to have her own book and get her own happily ever after please and thank you.)
