*I received an ARC from FirstToRead.com!*

This was a great addition to the Library Lover's series. To those who have been following the series since the beginning, some great things happen in here that will make you go "Well, finally!"

The mystery was well written, and gave a nice sense of dread. As the murder happened over 20 years ago, Lindsey starts to realize that the killer might never have left Briar Creek and might be someone she sees every day.

The introduction of new characters (Paula) gave the book a sense of fresh air that I hope continues, and while I do wish there was more interaction between Lindsey and some of the characters, I felt the character development was excellent. Makes me wish the rest of the series was here!

Better Late Than Never is number seven in the Library Lovers Mystery series. It might be one of my favorites. There were lots of sweet moments that made me smile. The love interests didn't annoy me in this one. The mystery was good and I absolutely didn't see the ending coming.

No way will you get an objective review here; sorry, but my love for this series and for this author’s ability to capture my mind and heart is too significant to simply brush aside.

It’s Amnesty Day at the Briar Creek, Connecticut public library where Lindsey Norris is the head librarian. Someone returns a copy of Catcher in the Rye that someone checked out 20 years earlier. In fact, the last person to check it out was a murdered high-school teacher in the community—a teacher whose students universally loved her.

Lindsey sets to work immediately determining whether the person who returned the book is the same one who killed Candice Whitley two decades earlier.

The book takes its share of mystery twists and turns, and I didn’t guess the killer early, although other Goodreads reviewers claimed they figured it out way up front. I guess that makes me the clueless one.

This gets a bit too swoony in places for me. If I want a romance, I’ll read one; if I want a mystery, I’ll read one. I can do with a combination of the two if there’s a balance. This feels just a tiny bit tilted toward the romance, but not so much that the book suffered.

I read the version narrated by Allyson Ryan which I downloaded from Overdrive. I can’t speak to the NLS narration. Ryan did a magnificent job of breathing life especially into Lindsey Norris, and her narration of the colorfully flamboyant children’s librarian Beth is equally fun and memorable.
