This was so nearly a 5-star read! I was pretty gripped by this book, and despite how well I’d remembered the first two books, I could barely remember the events of this one.
I LOVED the running away aspect; it was reminding me of The Hunger Games a lot, and further on Alex Rider. The best of both worlds when it comes to YA/children’s fiction. And the tension between Dax and Owen (the GOAT 🫶) was just brilliant. BUT, if I have to be honest, the entire orb thing just confused me a little and felt out of place. Maybe it’s explained better in the later books (I can’t remember) but I can’t figure out the link between the whacky orb and Luke and Catherine.
But other than that I thought it was a smashing read - this series never fails me!

More limited in its cast than the previous 2 and consequently less fun and interesting. Still a good part of the series.

This series will never stop being one of my favourites and it’s an absolute travesty that everyone doesn’t know about it. I love these characters and they’ve helped me through so many years. Since the beginning. So 2008. I’m so thankful for these books.
