I get that this is a classic and whatnot and understand its importance in terms of commentary on the 60s and transition into the 70s so I don’t feel like I can give this book a low rating.

However, I don’t think I am the right type of person to really love this book. It didn’t change or move me in any way. I’m glad I read it and had the experience but it’s not a book I’ll be going back to or insisting other people read. I feel like the kind of people who really love this book are the kind of people who really loved Wolf of Wallstreet.

Is it bad? No. Was I the target audience? Also probably no.

It was weird, psychedelic and drug crazed. I really enjoyed it. It does seem like just a bunch of ramblings from a man who is high as a kite on a cocktail of drugs but oddly it kept me entertained. The illustrations by Ralph Steadman are just as weird and crazy but again I liked it and thought it was stunning. I would love a piece of his art on my wall. I will pick up more from this author soon.

I kept this book in my backpack at school all year, and in-between my classes I would read a chapter or so when I could fit it in. This is a light book, great for taking places and just picking it up for a few minutes every so often.
