The fates of a young woman who kills to live and a young man who lives to kill intertwine in We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal.

Disguised as a man, Zafira is the Hunter who braves the darkness of the cursed forest of Arz in order to keep her people fed. Suppressing his own wants, Nasir, the Prince of Death, is an assassination tool for his demanding, powerful sultan father. Both Zafira and Nasir's reputations throughout Arawiya have them positioned as figures of legend, although neither of them seek that status. The Arz is getting closer and closer to civilization every day, driving forward a lurking shadow over the land. Zafira is invited to seek out an artifact that could put an end to the encroachment of the Arz by bringing back the magic her world once had. Aware of this task, the Sultan sends Nasir to find and kill the Hunter, but as the two are thrown together, they and their companions find there is a larger evil stirring and eager for destruction.
A richly detailed world once filled with magic is presented through the lenses of a strong, determined female defying convention and a precise, haunted male bound by duty, offering readers an adventure through ancient Arabia-inspired settings and emotional struggles as the characters develop and find their identities both within and despite the constraints they function under. The pacing is more of a slow burn with plentiful character introspection and a rapid uptake in action in the last section of the novel. With romantic tension and a quest to save the world as the underlying premise, the base structure of the story is familiar and predictable; however, the cultural flourishes added to the structure make the story more unique and interesting to read.
Overall, I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I did feel like the fight scenes were a little hectic and the pacing was a little all over the place, but I liked the characters and the twists well enough to make it an enjoyable read.

disappointing but still phenomenal. predictable plot twists and a romance that i didn't care for, HOWEVER the atmosphere and the world itself were absolutely enchanting

I can’t really add anything about this book that hasn’t already been said. This book was very tedious to read and all the plot twists left me with no emotion. Also it kind of bugged me how the “romance” is just sexual attraction.
