'I need to sit on the rings of Saturn dangling my boots into the black universe to be alone'*

So this is more in the vein of Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating and I ended up enjoying (read: yelling while reading) it as much as I enjoyed that one (although the ending to this is way better and less cheesy, ha). Have a list of things I want to yell about:

- First off, I feel like writing characters who abso-fucking-lutely embrace themselves, weird shit and all, is Sally's signature and is just so refreshing to read about, never stop
- A heroine with short 'boy' hair and how society is not equipped to handle it/puts too much unnecessary importance on the length of...hair
- The fact that Darcy has a heart condition and is a fucking mess, really
- However, she can fully hold her own and is a boss lady despite being soft af
- Darcy is hilarious and sad at the same time, it's a trip
- Emotions are hard for her but when she's being honest about her feelings, it's like she doesn't have a filter anymore and basically turns into a human hurricane LOL
- Tom, the love interest who's this big, shy dork. I'm not even kidding because this book possibly has the tallest love interest ever? 6' 6"? Are we okay there?
- TFW the tables are turned and it's Tom using words like 'safer' and 'reasonable' as explanations for why they shouldn't LOL
- Okay but the sexual tension 👀
- They had such honest conversations, though which I really appreciated
- However, they go through this cycle of being hurt and then apologizing to each other which I can't handle the annnngst
- Tom is a hard worker which shows especially in relation to the pressure of everyone wanting him to be perfect
- There's also this found family aspect as Tom essentially gets adopted by the Barretts and I'm so here for that
- TWINS
- Twins being loveable assholes
- Jamie, Darcy's twin, is so open and comfortable about his opinions and asshole-ish personality that just argh
- Hello, can he be more of an asshole who needs to be the insufferable center of attention all the time but also definitely loves his sister?
- I so wouldn't mind Sally writing about Jamie and [redacted] next, it'll make for one hell of a book I already know
- All the scenes involving the construction workers are so great and just yes
- Darcy having a hard time trusting in her photographing skills because of one huge failure, good stuff
- Also yesss to Darcy having a best friend, I loved Truly and found the whole Underswears subplot to be very amusing
- I feel like romances shouldn't be so rigid and binary anymore when it comes to writing and the dialog and this one definitely felt like that in places hm
- However, this book is very relevant to the present discussion around sexual abuse and harassment in the workplace and addresses how even just being friendly with a man could always end up 'encouraging' him
- Don't know if it's just me but some scenes in romances always just scream awkward at me in big, bold letters. What is this?
- I mean, there was so much of 'I can't believe anyone would not be in love with you' that okay, I get it
- Anyway, this is predictably very different from The Hating Game and is a good enough follow-up but I really wish it had dual POVs because that'd have made SO many scenes better
- But hey, angst and feelings is what it's all about and that, it does pretty well

not disappointed!

sally thorne is the queen of slow burn pining!

i loved the hating game so much and was so excited going into 99 percent mine. i do admit i had high expectations, but after finishing i have to say they were exceeded. it wasn’t as amazing as the hating game of course, but i was not disappointed. just don’t go into it thinking that it’s going to be just like the hating game and i think you’ll love it too!

I know the author is best known for The Hating Game, but I liked this much better! A more interesting, flawed, strong, messy heroine who is just trying her best to get by - and pursue the man of her dreams even though it's risky and hard.

Unfortunately for Sally Thorne, this book was a total flop. I was so excited to read it after reading The Hating Game. Now I’m starting to think Thorne might be a one hit wonder. The main characters in this book are completely unlikable. The story jumps around. The love interest acts like a child. The twin brother is down right nasty to the protagonist, yet she just lets him walk all over her for the entire book. Very disappointed.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. The perfect balance of banter, angst, sexual tension, and spice. I liked both Darcy and Tom as individuals, and loved them together. Sally Thorne is a master of character development.

99 Percent Mine was a cute love story. Darcy has a faulty heart that loves to wander. She is not good at setting down roots unless that includes the hunk, Tom Veleska, her twin brother's best friend. This is a quick, witty read.
