A short but impactful graphic novel about two indigenous best friends in high school. The book looks at violence against indigenous women and girls and also how the historical trauma of colonialism continues to impact every encounter with these girls and their community. I loved how the ghosts followed people around, suggesting that ancestral sins cannot be escaped or forgotten--you can only try to make amends. I also like the message that your ancestors are always around you, that you are never alone.

Short look at two friends who carry their losses and their imminent fears with them. One of them may soon be moved from family into foster care, and the other has lost her mother. The story brings light to the fact that a disproportionately high number of indigenous women go missing and are presumed murdered. Though the story is serious, it has moments of sweetness and hope, and the art is brilliant.

A wonderful glimpse into the customs, fears, culture and realities of being indigenous and female. There is a lot of love in this short graphic novel despite some of the things it tackles. And it comes from the community that indigenous peoples have built over centuries.
