This book is NOT a mystery. Absolutely not. This is what happens when a literary fiction masquerades as a genre book. This has little to no surprises if you are paying attention and worst of all this has everything in it that makes me give a HARD NO when reading modern, literary fiction.

This book is just another story of shitty people, doing shitty things to each other and then, mostly, getting away with it.

Just no. The ending tries to redeem itself but overall I was still angry for all the betrayals.
This also has a lot of purple prose, none of which stuck out to me, which is telling and several situations that kept bordering on almost-incest. I just... no. This was not a good mystery or thriller. This was a literary fiction with a genre label slapped onto it to trick people like me who WANT escapism to read it and then feel angry and gross afterwards.

To be honest I don't think people who know what this book is about and are given sufficient details will hate it as much as I did. But I am overall a hopeful person and books like this just make me pessimistic.

The irony is that the only decent character is the least developed and the most honest in her intentions, Nelly. Which I do not think was the author's intentions.
