This book is just such a quiet story - smooth, eloquent in its tragedy.
Ansel has 24 hours before his execution. As the reader counts down, his life story unfolds - told by the women in his life.
The author notes near the end, the serial killer, typically a man who viciously murdered, should not be the focus. His victims deserve recognition for the cost of their lives. The loss to humanity.

so well written, an excellent commentary on our fascination with serial killers and also about the death penalty. i felt the perfect amount of gripped and educated if that makes sense, like there was enough just raw story to keep me entertained but also a lot of social commentary which i enjoyed because now i can sit on my train and reflect on it

I’ve got to thank Danya Kukafka for this brilliant novel she’s written. Every single character felt so real I forgot that I was reading fiction. They had so much depth and the the concept of this book truly moved me. It’s really a question of wether someone so sick and undeserving of forgiveness should be given the gift of living. I love that we got so many different perspectives the one I found the most interesting was lavenders. It was so captivating to read about the mother who created this person and a look inside of how ansel became the way he was.

When He said he took those items from those girls because he thought it would keep him “safe” because of the Locket his mother took from him I got chills.

The only downside is that I wish we got more of the perspectives of the girls that were murdered. We got tons from Saffy and often I would get kind of bored of her POV because we got it so much.

Overall this books writing was insanely good and that’s what makes it a five star for me.
