This book follows three 14-year-old girls who plant a mystery seedling that grows a flower whose nectar turns them temporarily into boys. Chaos, violence, and longing ensues. 
This was written in 2011 in Denmark so it feels too late to have a nuanced, 2024 discussion about it with my American peers. I think it was ahead of its time in terms of creatively interrogating gender and sexuality and I'll be actively seeking out the opinion of a trans or genderqueer reviewer. I always rate on terms of personal enjoyment, I have no qualifications/feel no right to objectively rank books.  So I give this one four and a half taters because it made me think and seek further discussion! 🥔🥔🥔🥔🍠/🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔

By Jessica Schiefauer, and translated by Saskia Vogel, garnering prestigious awards and nominations, both banned and taught in schools along with glowingly recommended in LGBTQ+ lists, this is one of those dark YA fairytale-like books in a magical realism vein.
