I desperately, desperately wanted to enjoy this. It was beautifully written, and for a book about plants, surprisingly engaging. But I just have too many other books that I can’t wait to read to force myself through something that doesn’t excite me.

Memoir, ecology, storytelling, history, sense of place, and more; it's hard to describe in conventional genre terms, which makes sense once you've started reading it. There are lessons to be shared and learned, along with questions about the future that are restorative rather than despairing.
