This is simply put—a masterpiece! A well written suspense filled story navigating the lives of two women, Noelle and Catherine, and how they were connected to one man, Larry. I couldn’t put it down! And this is my second time of reading it. I was only fifteen the first time I read this book. And I now know why I kept this book even decades later! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I did really dislike all the characters in this book. There were loathsome men who always has lewd goals (except William Fraser ofc). Even the women were very hateable. They did unforgivable things. And then there were really dumb wives like Melina Lambrou and Catherine Alexander who blindly loved their obviously monstrous husbands. It was a pain to see them be humiliated. But still this book was unputdownable. I constantly wanted to know what would happen next. I am glad that Noelle and Larry got what they deserved and I hope Demiris is the one ruined in the next book.

The book was overall fine for me. The characters and setting for me are the best in overall Sidney Sheldon’s work. However, the plot twist is predictable and the ending wasn’t great. But still I like it. Recommend for the beginners delving in thrillers, pick this one.

This was the first adult book that I read. My older sister loaned me her copy--- without my parents knowledge of course. I remember loving it but should re-read it now that I can without sneaking.

Unputdownable. I devoured this book. I found the characters fascinating, the time period fascinating and the end played perfectly into the whole idea of these people playing a big game of chess.
