it was a good bood, just not a great one in my opinion. i had no trouble finishing it within like 2 days because i was truly intrigued, but i kept waiting for the big twist, the revelation, but it never really came. i was waiting for something to happen, and when i got to a point where i thought, yes, shit's about to go down for real now, it didn't. it was totally underwhelming. while reading, i came up with many theories where the story might be leading and was surprised that the ending was simply the most predictable one. considering that, i feel like the prologue could've been omitted. the setup reminded me of "the secret history", and if it was aiming for a similar effect, it fell short. i was intriguing, compelled to keep reading, but never emotionally invested. the writing was nice to read, but also nothing very special. the characters were unique, but i didn't really connect with them. i liked the narration and the narrator, though. the pacing was consistent, but maybe it could've been a bit faster. the book left me with a feeling with of "a lot happened but also nothing happened". but maybe that was the point, the mundaneness of it all, nobody really seeing how bad the situation is until a tragedy happens. the book kept me occupied for two days and i enjoyed reading it, but it's not going to stay on my mind long.
