This was such a sweet book. I loved that the author chose to highlight this book as from someone who is proud of her heritage but coming to terms with the multifaceted life of being an immigrant. I loved how powerful the family love was and how despite having a whole host of problematic twiddles, they all had a learning curve and grew over the course of the book. I appreciated how the grief of leaving one's family and home affected the main character.

Such a well done book!

What a moving story. Jude is such a complex, compassionate, and brave young girl and her story as an immigrant from Syria deserves to be told.

Addressing racism and islamophobia, as well as the sacrifice inherent in leaving your country in search of safety, Other Words for Home gives voice to a much needed perspective in Western literature.

I highly recommend for readers of all ages.

I cried at the end during the author's note. Other Words for Home is a beautifully written story of Jude, a young Syrian girl fleeing her war-torn country with her pregnant mama for America, which is too loud and too fast for her in the beginning, leaving behind her Baba and brother. It's such a lovely story about home and family. I listened to it on audio and highly enjoyed it in that format.
