This book is very emotional. It does a good job of showing Jude's want to be Syrian and American. But does not downplay either.

ok, ok, THIS BOOK WAS SO CUTE! I read most of it today and wow does it take you on an emotional roller coaster. I loved how the main character, Jude, tried out for the school's play and how she loved movies and acting so much. Loved the family dynamic and growth, especially with Jude's cousin, Sarah. Loved the characters and the light plot. Please, however, be warned near the end of the book there is racism and hate crime so please if you can't handle that read that right now, don't. Overall, great read!

Read this for the VRC this year!

This was a beautiful book! I listened to it on audio and I really enjoyed the reader. I loved how we got to see the cultural shift from moving from Syria to Cincinnati, and how they come to find home there. And I learned more about the cultural meanings behind certain traditions were so that was awesome too!Ā
