This book picks up right after the events of the first book in this feminist fantasy series, Queen and Conqueror. We follow Hira as she returns home to claim the Istok high seat. Escorted by the handsome, brooding, and torn Commander Justan Siever, Hira is challenged to be a leader, accept her place, and transform into the dragon her people need. Betrayal and intrigue hang relationships in the balance, as the Queen Almira prepares to give birth in Istok waters and as Hira and Justan make their way home.

This is a thrilling second edition in an epic fantasy series that I am thrilled is being written. The action is fast-paced, the characters so real, the story devastating. I had the privilege of beta reading, and I will read this book again and again as the series releases.
