I finished this book in one day. If you want a holiday book for next year, this is the series.

This book was disappointing! I had high hopes for the final book of this series, and while there were some great moments, my general feeling after reading it was not that pleased. I didn’t like where it ended. I didn’t like the introduction of a random and unnecessary story line. I wanted so badly for this to be a solid cap on a great series, and it just fell flat.

I just finished Winter Solstice and I'm so sad that I had to say my final goodbye to the Quinn family.  😭 I was hesitant to read the fourth book since it was supposed to be a trilogy, but I'm so glad I read the series in it's entirety. I loved how everything was wrapped up with this book, even with all of it's heartache. Oh Quinn family, you will be missed. 4/5⭐

PSA: The Eddie chapters can basically all be skipped.
Maybe the ones where Allegra is introduced and fleshed out might be worthwhile but after those I skipped every Eddie chapter and didn't feel like I missed anything of any value. Which kind of makes me wonder why he was included other than to show this story exists in the same Nantucketverse that Eddie was introduced in, "The Rumor", does. But if you haven't read that one, like me, he's almost pointless to the story of the Quinn family.

Now onto my critique of the parts of the book I did read.

I liked Bart more when he was being held captive. Harsh but when he is actually in Nantucket being a real character and not some sad reason why no one else can have fun he is kind of annoying. He thinks that people living their lives and doing fun things like going to the beach are pointless because there are men over in the Middle East dying and fighting for "freedom." So what does he want? For everyone to walk around sad and crying because some people got tricked into signing up to fight a pointless war? Plus the term war hero gets thrown around so many times in regards to Bart and his fellow captives. What makes them heroes? They were "in country" for all of like a day or two before they were captured. Along with this when Bart is on a date with Allegra she says she wants a real man. Bart imagines that as someone strong, intelligent and has accomplished something. He then thinks he fits that description because he "joined the Marines, went to the Middle East, got captured, and returned safely." Being captured is an accomplishment? Since when?

Other than that this one was fine. A whatever sort of ending, you can see how it's going to end from the very beginning.

Overall I'm glad to be done dealing with this family. In my opinion, if you want this sort of prolonged story about a family with the Elin Hilderbrand kind of style, read her Paradise series, it's much better and the characters are less insufferable.

I am obsessed with this family. Margaret is awesome. Kelley is awesome. I like how they tied up everyone’s stories and I cried my eyes out at the end.

It felt like the other three books were just quick little winter books Elin put together for fun during her off season lol but I feel like she even grew to love these characters and I could feel how much she loved them with the final book. This was the best one!

I’m pretty confused about why this has decent Goodreads reviews. Perhaps I’m missing something, but this was my least favorite Elin Hilderbrand book so far. Maybe I should have started at the beginning of the 4-part series so that I’d grow more attached to the characters? Not sure. All I have to say is, there were WAY too many characters than needed in this one - including one introduced ten pages from the end that turned out to be totally inconsequential and seemingly just space filler. I lost track / got confused several times, given the sheer volume of characters involved, which only added to my inability to get attached to any one of them (even the poor, dying patriarch!).

Why’d I pick this read? Elin Hilderbrand fandom
