Aliens/Vampirella is a crossover that is as ridiculous as it is horrifying. The creators play off the suspense built into the Alien franchise with some cool twists thrown in due to the vampires.
Humanity has established a base on Mars, which they discover is on top of a set of ruins. Vampirella is brought to the colony because the ruins appear to be from an ancient vampire race. When she takes a team into the ruins to learn about these vampires, they come across something much more terrifying.
There is a bit going on in this book. It certainly isn't boring by any means. The art is pretty cool too. As the search team uncovers more about the aliens and the vampires, things just get bigger and badder. The book plays into the tropes one would expect from these two series, but doesn't do much to break out of them.
One thing that bugged me is the way the humans are treating Vampirella. There is some inconsistency that could have been explained better. Perhaps being more familiar with her mythology would cover that. I enjoyed this book, but ultimately the combination just felt over the top to me and that feeling never really dissipated as the book went on.

This was silly and the connection between the franchises didn't necessarily make a lot of sense, but it was a fun story and I though the author wrote Vampirella well.

I liked aspects of it...but ultimately this isn't the most compelling Aliens story and it certainly doesn't make me want to read more Vampirella. Needed more xenomorphs, needed more vampire elements....just needed more. Light fun, quick read, but not going to be my go-to Aliens (xenomorph-causing-chaos-fun) story.

I've long had a very jaundiced view of Vampirella. Even in an industry with a penchant for embarrassingly impractical cheesecake-y female outfits, her barely-there red leotard screamed "desperate PG-13 titillation". It's certainly thoroughly impractical attire for facing up to the acid-blooded Xenomorph horrors of the Alien franchise. So I went into this with low expectations indeed.
So I'm a little surprised to say that it's ultimately an OK Aliens comic. Despite the cover art, Vampirella wears practical attire in all but one panel of the actual comic, and the book makes no bones that 'I can drink your blood!' is a useless power against something whose blood will melt you skull. This is very much a book where Vampirella is just trying to survive. For fans of the character it might actually be an issue to see her so out-matched here, but I was on board with it.
I'm not a huge fan of the visual story-telling, though. I didn't find the art or the panel to panel flow of action to be especially strong.

I got a copy of this from Netgalley for a fair and honest review. First I want to mention that I have never read any Vampirella before. I had seen the character before and knew she was a vampire. Of course everyone knows of the Aliens. I know that this versus is not a new thing either. At times I really didn't like this as it seemed kind of rushed...I wished that a little more effort had been put into setting up the main plot. In the end I was quite generous with my rating of 3 stars.

This was an excruciatingly terrible comic. While the artwork is actually quite good, everything else about it is atrocious. The storytelling is blatantly obvious and horridly cheesy, enough to rival that of a very bad 80s B-horror movie. The character interactions are dull and over-done, while the horror were preposterously cliched.
I picked this up because I am a huge fan of the Aliens franchise, but this is a colossal disappointment to said series and it makes me very, very sad. One a half eggs out of five, and that's all for the illustrations.
