Who tested these recipes? They are horrible! There are so many good plant based cookbooks and resources, but this isn’t one of them. If you are looking for some good options, go to your local library and check out a bunch of cookbooks, photocopy recipes you want to try and then text them out. But skip this book. Almost every recipe is a clunker.

I really like that each recipe had a photo! That's sometimes a pet peeve of mine with cookbooks filled only with recipes and no pictures. I found quite a few recipes that I would like to try.

This is my go-to cookbook to build recipes off of. I use it more as a jumping off point and end up adding greens, grains, etc. to suit my tastes and caloric goals. After reading How Not to Die, I tried to implement the Daily Dozen on my own and found I was eating way too much food and things I didn't particularly like. Buying the cookbook was a huge help, broadening my idea of how to sneak in Daily Dozen ingredients and how to cook things well without tons of oil or salt. The recipes are approachable and use a wide variety of produce and spices (which is weirdly hard to come by on Pinterest because most people don't prioritize a WFPB diet). If you're interested in eating healthfully, no matter your diet, this book is a great tool (and Dr. Greger includes an introduction that explains his method, so you don't need to have read How Not to Die in order to understand the "why" of the diet).

I find Dr Greger's books to be very informative but the cookbook is not nearly as good. I made 4 or 5 recipes and they were all OK but lacking in flavor. I'm always concerned with these types of books that people will try to make a change to their diet but then get discouraged. Everything was very bland. The black-eyed peas and collards greens was the best but I think that might have been because we used our own favorite hot sauce. There are some amazing vegan, whole food, low fat cookbooks but this isn't one of them.

I'm not willing to go full plant based, at least not yet but I do like the healthier lessons and recipes to start incorporating in my diet.
