~ We are not makers of history, We are made by history. ~

Loving your country is a complicated exercise. One would swell their chest at just the sight of the national flag yet be frustrated at dealing with the same issues that we had when we got independence, all at the same time!

We know that feeling right?

Independence Day written by @veenavenugopal brings forward the stories of 15 odd individuals from all across the country that witnessed India's first Independence Day. It chronicles the undertones and moods of the streets, cities, towns and villages from the first person perspectives of the witnesses themselves. Each chapter is about a particular person from a different part of the country and they recount their lives, anecdotes, their expectations with the new found nation, their opinions on the leaders back then and  even now.
Some of these were barely 4-5 years old then and did not entirely understand the meaning of freedom while some were teens and participated in the movement too.

Like I said earlier, loving your country is a complicated exercise. This short book taught me something regarding that, it gave me hope. It taught me a little acceptance and gave me the zeal to think and act on how I can make my country a better place, to do my bit for it because one common thing that these 15 different people had was - passion for their country!

Did I not tell you yet? It has some really funny anecdotes and commentary in it too.
