I don't usually read autobiographies but have become obsessed with the musical Hamilton so decided I needed to read up on a little bit about him.
And this was just an amazing, easy read for someone who doesn't usually like to read this kind of book.

Really nice biography of Alexander Hamilton, a popular choice right now for teens especially, with the success of the Broadway musical. Brockenbrough takes us through his entire life, beginning with the hurricane in St. Croix that he experienced as a boy, in a very readable biography full of illustrations and pull-out quotes. She shows how he was a man of honor his whole life, having to combat false rumors that he was siphoning money while Treasury Secretary by showing he was having an affair with a married woman! Talk about too much honesty. Extensive appendices have explanations of politics of the time, a timeline, family tree and plenty of sources. Definitely for older readers, due to length, or very determined fans of Hamilton of any age.

If you loved Hamilton from Broadway, you’ll really LOVE this book. Brockenbrough has done extensive research to write this book, and this filled in the gaps and revealed what was true from the Broadway show and what was fictionalized. After reading this I truly do admire Alexander Hamilton, and am grateful for the sacrifices he made for a country he could envision and believed in. This was a fast and easy read that was truly enlightening.

4.5.

As much as I am OBSESSED with the musical, I really wanted to give this book a 5.

The only thing that is stopping me from doing that is those little sections that have a sentence bigger. I believe it is too let you know that it is an important sentence. I just didn’t like re-reading the same sentence. It is silly, I know but that’s just my thought ☺️

The rest of the book was great! I learned a lot!
