This is absolutely fantastic, so many characters and each so distinctive. Geneva and the Swiss Alps come alive!
This is my favorite kind of mystery. A complicated “enigma” like the title says. The who/what/where/when slowly unravels. It has a kind of Agatha Christie flavor but it’s also quite unique. Bonus for it being meta fiction too. A genre that is ruled by one of my favorite contemporary authors, Anthony Horowitz.
In this story there is a baffling amount of back & forth in time, past & present. 10 years ago. 3 Days before the murder. One month before the gala. 15 years later. February, December, Yesterday, 1 day later. Etc.
But, it’s all important to the plot.
Besides the Christie-Horowitz connections I wanted to read this because I also enjoyed this writers previous book, “The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair” which was a lot of fun.
