Read this to Penelope in the womb and finished it off when she came out. We'll read it again when she's old enough to understand. It's a great starter fantasy series.

A rich and humourous fantasy series featuring Taran, assistant pig keeper who thinks he knows what it is to be a hero, and longs for something to happen. When Hen-Wen, oracular pig of great value to an evil enemy, disappears on his watch, he finds himself in the company of real heroes, and finds it much different than he imagined. A unique and well-written story, based roughly on Welsh mythology, this fantasy has epic battles, mix-ups, enchantment, and a boy and a girl who both have a lot of growing to do before they're ready to take their place in Prydain history.

That was really cute. Will I continue with the series? No, it reminds me too much of Lord of the Rings where there's all this build-up only for a short climax that leaves me entirely unsatisfied. I am glad to be able to scratch this off on my classics poster, though.

Awesome - so much nostalgia here. I was quickly sucked in to the story just like many times before. I'll be coming back to this to introduce to my oldest soon.

Edit: Objectively I should point out this book isn't spectacular compared to the plethora of YA fantasy out there now (though it did pave the way back in the 60s). So if you don't already have a connection to this it may not wow you. But if I remember right the rest of the series keeps getting better.
