There is a lot of character development in this one, building off foundations laid in the previous two books in the series. I appreciate the way the author handles psychological trauma and in addition to all the historical details, not to mention the intricacies of the episodic mystery. I keep being surprised and impressed by these books. Maisie Dobbs for the win!

This is the 3rd book in the Maisie Dobbs series I’ve read & I just love them so much. I plan on reading the entire series eventually. They are set in a time that not many books are written in the time between WW1 & WW2.

Reading these in order of writing and this one definitely the grittiest and most suspenseful yet. Quite enjoy the author's attention to detail, historical grounding and passion for the existence of the more 'ordinary' amongst. The heroine remains in an intriguingly middle ground between labouring and the aristocratic in early twentieth century England. Much enjoyed.
