I just finished reading the online story http://www.sbs.com.au/theboat/ and it was very good! I liked how interactive it was, and the powerful visuals. This is my first read for the 2020 Asian Readathon!

"Clearly incredibly skilled, though I feel a bit like I'm reading an impressive portfolio than a collection of stories. Room to settle."

A gorgeous interactive visual novel.

Not the easiest writing to follow, a little choppy and disjointed, but the sound design and visuals just bring it to life and make for an engrossing, beautiful and harrowing read.

( I read this via an interacting novel produced by SBS which you can find here http://www.sbs.com.au/theboat/ )

2022 Reading Challenge Prompt 7:
A book already on your bookshelf

I bought this book after two friends recommended it and after I had done some research in its content. A compilation of short stories relating to various ethno-cultural subject matters sounds like my perfect cup of tea. More importantly, after starting volunteering at an asylum seekers organisation a few months ago, I was desperate to learn more about the places people come from. Unfortunately, this book failed on all fronts to achieve this. Slow paced, sluggish plots, underdeveloped characters and a lack of world building led Le’s work to come crashing down. I persevered by taking breaks and moving between stories, but in the end, I just couldn’t do it. Why waste time on a text when there are hundreds out there discussing the same issues but with quality?

um wow this was intense and beautiful and extremely sad. the art style was phenomenal and the animation and sounds made the experience better. the only reason why its not a five is because it didnt make me cry which i thought it would so i was a little dissapointed. but a must

This is a review of the webcomic adaptation of The Boat.

The production of this webcomic was amazing. The interactive art and soundtrack really brought the story alive. However, the storytelling wasn‰ЫЄt very smooth. It was kind of clunky. I would have liked to know more backstory of the characters to better connect with them. More historical context and background would have been really helpful too. The interactive art is what made this story unique and likable. The writing needs work but definitely has potential to be a very powerful story.

I didn't realise this was a collection of short stories until I started reading it.

My favourite was Meeting Elise—which I adored—the rest of the stories were underwhelming.

(This book was required reading for my Writing Australia class).
