Reading about, listening, teaching, and experiencing these stories are so important in understanding a part of Canada that was hidden for so long. A dark part of Canada that many tried to burry and forget. I will never forget. I read any of all of these stories if I can. I am always still shocked at what was allowed to happen. Thank you for sharing this story.

This is the story of a Survivor, a woman who attended and survived Residential school, who also knew Betty from the other book I read and spent her life motivated to helping after her friend was killed (and changed her own name to Betty in honor of her). I appreciated learning more about the sacredness of storytelling, the process, and am tha kful that this Betty was willing to share her story.

This book is heart-wrenching and absolutely necessary. In spare, unflinching prose and illustrations, it tells of some of the horrors experienced by Indigenous children in the Christian residential schools. This book is specifically based on the experiences of Cree Elder Betsy Ross.
