The story and characters are gripping, especially “Journey” at the end. While a work of fiction, there is a lot to be learned about the difficulties and trauma migrants face in journeying to a new place. However, it doesn’t feel right to me that it was written and illustrated by 3 white men…

Maybe graphic novels aren't for me...
I couldn't connect with the characters at all, the things they said were written in a rather unnatural way with simple, short and emotionless sentences. It was almost like reading a Wikipedia article as a graphic novel: interesting, but written in a very sober way.
It made me grateful for the life I live as a European and it pains me to think about all the refugees who to this day risk (and way too often lose) their lives for the chance to a better and safer live - but the characters of the story made me feel nothing.

This graphic novel is mandatory reading! It is SO good and such a good depiction of what immigrants go through as they seek out a better place to live. The graphics are beautiful and I loved that the story switched between the current journey (on the boat to Europe) and the journey Ebo took from Ghana to find his brother. Ebo was such a sweet character and just always a ray of light and hope even when things looked pretty hopeless for him and his friends. This book was heartbreaking, but also so important for people to read and understand.  Seriously, amazing, go read this asap.
