I was interested in this right from the beginning when we meet Lucius who just wanted some peace and quiet. Poor Selena has had a hard turn in life and meeting Lucius likely didn’t help after the traveling and being cold to the bone to have an awkward encounter.

The pacing was great and all the elements felt authentic to the characters and their actions. Selena is a gentleman’s daughter and isn’t used to her lowly status as a paid companion and is trying to help her family by her own two hands, not wanting to rely on others-not after what happened to her father.

I was lucky to get an ARC from the author who is a talented writer. This is the second book of hers I’ve read.

The ending was cute, but this was overall pretty bland and forgettable.

Reminded me of Heyer's The Nonesuch, but not as enjoyable.

Although the book was fun to read. The ending felt a bit too rushed. Actually, the characters' personalities seemed to change so drastically to fit the ending.

Do you love a Cinderella story? I love cheering for the underdog! When I was already laughing at the meet-cute I knew I was going to fall in love with this book! I have become such a fan of Jennie’s books and was thrilled to binge this entire series in anticipation of book 3 coming out next week (hint: it’s also excellent

Cute but not nonsensical, romantic without being ridiculous. This is a historical romance well done! Would definitely recommend
