This novel has sparked my interest in reading more romance historical fiction books! šŸ˜¤ Since it was so enjoyable, I believe I have found my go-to genre (which is a combination of the mentioned genres above lmao)

I love me some good mystery, as it brings so much thrill into my bones. Just like the ever-growing tension between the alluring gentleman, Adam Hardesty, and the beautiful sensational author, Caroline Fordyce. šŸ˜ Their fate was intertwined with the mystery of the passing medium, which became the buzz of the town. So, imagine such ill gossip if people were to find out about the two running around, taking matters into their own hands during an investigation! šŸ§

Oh, not only were fates intertwined, but Adam had become Carolineā€™s source of inspiration for her sensational novelā€™s main character. He was the blueprint for her novelā€™s villain. But could Adam become the villain in their story? Would her novelā€™s villain have the same glorious fate that would satisfy her readers?

Secrets, hidden pasts, and the heartā€™s true feelings are overflowing within them. Could Caroline trust Adam with her heart? Could Adam trust Caroline with his?

I love every inch of this novel! šŸ˜ The characters are so well created, and the writing style made me reminisce about my favourite classic authors. Truly, this was such a beautiful read. A mix of romance and mystery set in a historic fictional era. šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ’—

Loved the characters and story line of this book. Hoping there are other books featuring some of the secondary characters!

I loved the premise and the characters. They did a great job with the struggles and reveals. But the pace is soooo fucking slow. They got so caught in the mystery that the characters didnā€™t really go forward and there were times when you forgot about the romance part altogether. It took me weeks to finish because it was boring in big chunks.

Wait Until Midnight
3 Stars

Very similar in plot and atmosphere to the March and Lake books, but Adam and Caroline's romance lacks the intensity and chemistry that characterize Tobias and Lavinia's relationship.

The mystery is more convoluted than some of Quick's other works with several different plot threads merging together. Nevertheless, the resulting narrative is quite seamless, and the climax and resolution are satisfying overall.

One interesting point is Quick's shift in her portrayal of psychic abilities from realistic and believable in The Arcane Society books to charlatans and frauds who prey on the gullible and susceptible. It is a sign of her skill as a writer that she is able to accomplish both so well.

In sum, this is an engaging read overall despite its formulaic elements.
