This was my second time reading Long Way Down and hearing it straight from Jason Reynolds' mouth made the reading even more impactful. His cadence, the weight and importance he gave to each word, really drove home Will's grief, rage, indecision, and fear. I don't know that there will ever be a time that I read Will holding Shawn as he weeps and not end the scene in tears myself. God, and that ending! So ambiguous. On this reading, I found it hopeful.Â
