This book has been one of my favorites since i was a child and I periodically read this book to refresh my memory of the brilliant Fairy Tales that Andersen wrote. I like the way he spun the stories to be both sad and hopeful and put his own twist on classic tales.

Love this collection of Danish fairytales. Some are better than others but I discovered a few that I didn't know were from Hans Christian Andersen.
As much as I love the Disney's Little Mermaid, I think there is so much more depth and weight to the themes of the original version (religion, morality, love, sacrifice). Especially when compared to other works in the anthology like the Ugly Duckling, Snow Queen, Little Match Girl.

A big collection of fairytales that I liked. I knew some of the tales and I loved them. Others were a little forgettable or religious. A mixed collection.

It was great to finally read the tales I grew up with in their original format .. although they were not nearly so grim as I had heard. This was an enjoyable read.

The stories were great (how can you go wrong with HCA?) but the pictures were a bit sparse and not my favorites. It's a good collection of tales, though, including several I hadn't come across before.

Collections like these are wonderful.

Whether you want to read through the full collection or you’re simply looking for a single fairy tale, it is up to you. It’s so good for picking and choosing the fairy tales as you see fit. In all honesty, though, I would recommend giving all the fairy tales a read as it is great to be able to sit and read them all in their glory.
