THE WAY THE ENDING HAD MY DROP TIME AND TIME AGAIN. I can tell already this series will be one I love and appreciate for a long time truly. And I will be diving almost straight into the final one.

I felt turmultuous as the back and forth between Akiva and karou and the angels and chimera but I still wasn’t ready for the end and cannot wait to see where they’ll take us.

2023: 4 stars. I liked this a lot better than the first, for my second read. I just enjoyed seeing the war/politics/double crossing/intrigue, so much more interesting.

2017: 4 stars

Awesome second instalment of the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy. I could have read more chapters of the adventures of Mik and Zuzu (basically just them running around the world as Zuzana comes up with increasingly more challenging tasks for Mik to complete). I loved the world building and learning more about Eretz and the cliff hanger ending had me yelling as I reached for the 3rd book. For a book that was quite slow paced in the middle, I still felt that Taylor kept me on my toes. You cannot possible guess the twists and turns that this book is going to make. Just when you think you've got it, the carpet gets pulled out from under your feet.

While I adore the first book for this amazing, crazy journey it takes you on (and makes you read the entire book without putting it down), this book is marked by contrasts done well. We have Karou who is caught in the Chimera war and in their vengence, while Akiva is trying his best at rebellion and somehow getting to peace.
It's just great to see both their journeys and how they arrive at their respective points in time and conviction.
