I honestly don't know how to feel about this book. On the one hand, we get a look into the forging of Alec and Magnus's strong relationship, and we see Aline and Helen meet and be adorable together.

It was fun, quick to get through, and the plot was interesting enough.

On the other hand, I have absolutely no idea why this was labelled 'adult', and the writing just honestly was not up to typical Cassie Clare standard (fair, considering it wasn't written by her, but still). And it was a little confusing trying to place this in the overall timeline when I first started reading, since the messaging isn't totally clear.

It's set between City of Glass and City of Fallen Angels, btw.

So idk, I'm on the fence about this. I never thought I'd be grateful that a Shadowhunters series will only be two books, but here we are. We'll see how we go with Book of the White.

From the first time I read about Magnus Bane I knew he was going to be a favourite of mine and I was so excited to read this book for more of him and Alec. The twists in it kept me hooked and I feel like I couldn’t get enough. Some parts of the book did confuse me but overall it was really good and I can’t wait to read the next one.

I enjoyed this story but definitely not as much as the majority of the rest of the shc. I’ve always loved malec but i guess it was bc there was like no stakes?? like i knew everyone was gonna live and which relationships were gonna pan out etc just bc i’ve already read chronologically what comes after. either way it was still a nice edition to the world and cool to see this kind of important development in malec’s relationship

I mean yes! I am so happy these two got together if it was not already obvious in pervious books.
