The book reads more like a Netflix series than a fantasy book but it’s trill brilliant. I really enjoyed the visuals it stimulates and the storyline between Sab and Ead is beautiful.

The rich world building and character development of this story were phenomenal. The multiple POVs and the shorter chapters made the story flow and made the length of the book much more digestible. The sapphic romance in this book was also incredible. My one issue is the finale of book felt a little anticlimactic due to how short it was in comparison to the large build up throughout the book.

whew. I did it. I'm not a stranger to long books but this one is not very digestible. I understand a lot of world building needs to be done, but with 4 different plots happening alongside each other having this being broken into 2 books would have been better.

So much time was wasted on the building and fluff parts that it felt almost all of the big parts were to short, too quick. the climax just immediately tanks, if it even really builds all the way to the climax.

I saw another reviewer say inelegant and I feel that is perfect to describe this.

the dragons were cool, I like the characters. it just felt like a slog because of the length vs plot struggle.  I thought about giving it a 3 but then I was like I am not sure I would really recommend this.

My favourite book.
This book is for the kids who didn't want to be princes and princesses, this is for the kids who wanted to be knights and dragon riders, royalty and sorcerers.
This is a story for those who never felt they were enough and proof that you are, if you choose to believe it.

I am so mad at myself for waiting so long to read this book! The pacing of this book was perfect, and I devoured every single page. The characters were all portrayed so vividly and I found myself growing more and more attached to characters like Sabran, Ead, Tané, Margret, and Loth. There were so many strong and complex women in this story, and I constantly kept thinking, "That was so badass," every few chapters.

The most common critiques of this book are that it's long, and that despite that length, it's pretty simple. These critiques have merit, and yet, I cannot bring myself to begrudge the book them.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good, old-fashioned chivalric romance. Give me a warrior with a great love to defend, give that warrior a magic sword and a great evil to swing it at, and I'll lap it up all day. This story has been done before by far less competent authors than Shannon. And let's be real, the length wasn't ever going to be a deal breaker to me, not when I've read each of the Stormlight Archive books multiple times.
