One of the best books, I've read in a while. One of those book where you can imerge yourself in the story and it feels like you're watching everything with your own eyes.

Shannon did not disappoint. The attention to detail in this story was impeccable. There were so many things happening throughout but it all came together and made sense. The first half of the book is a lot of world and plot building. Once you get to the second half things become more intense, but nothing can compare to everything that happens within the last 100-200 pages of the book.

Spoiler One thing I noticed though was that throughout this whole story the main antagonist was the Nameless One. Every character in this book knew of him and were afraid of his return. However, He didn't show up in the book until like page 773 out of 804. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that the differences between countries and regions in regard to the religion was focused on a lot throughout the book and the Nameless One is more like "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation. I also did not understand in the second to last chapter when Tane went to Komoridu and fell asleep and woke up with a white butterfly in her hands and blood on her side. Where did the blood come from???

Huge, epic, and gay. Quality animal and dragon friends to help our protagonists (I especially loved the Ichnuemon). All but one of the pov characters are POC. I wish I could watch this as a series. 5/5 stars and no notes.

An immersive, thrilling, lush read! After the 200 page mark, I was off to the races hoping to unfold the mystery and action as fast as I could. I really enjoyed Ead, Tane, and Loth’s POVs, and loved all of the dragon content.

I do think this should have been split into multiple books (the instant gratification of reading the whole story at once rather than waiting for installments was satisfying! But!!), the pacing was really uneven and the world building learning curve was steep. I would have liked to spend more time learning about The Priory and Lasia and also some of the other nations we didn’t cover,
Spoiler I think that would have made the conclusion and eventual coming together of leaders more impactful
. And that could only really be done by having more books to deeply explore places where we only skipped over them (and maybe spend less time in some of the more boring, menial Inys stuff). I also deeply disliked Niclays Roos’ chapters (tbh I kinda skimmed them sorry), I think his character could have been completely removed and we would have had the same impact. The ending felt so rushed compared to the rest of it, so spending more time there would have also been nice.

All in all, this was a wonderful fantasy novel that felt daunting at first but quickly became a story a couldn’t put down. Great characters, action, and world-building, I can’t wait to get to the prequel!

I don’t know how this book managed to surpass my expectations but it did by leaps and bounds. A perfect world, magic system, writing style, structure, and cast of characters. I was convinced I’d be saying it was too long, but if anything it could have been longer - I would spend forever in this incredible world with these life like characters. Loved this.

The book reads more like a Netflix series than a fantasy book but it’s trill brilliant. I really enjoyed the visuals it stimulates and the storyline between Sab and Ead is beautiful.
