Finally! I finally read The Book. This started with a month-long hesitation between this one and Shadow & Bone. I read Shadow & Bone in 2019, wasn't impressed, and thought I wouldn't bother with Six of Crows. Then the series was announced and tickled my fancy (LOVE that phrase). The reviews made me think perhaps I hadn't started with the right book. And they were right! I was swept into Ketterdam alongside this troop of misfits and followed hungrily their wacky adventures. As the blurb says, it's Ocean's Eleven in a fantasy world, but in addition to that it's queernormative and diverse and amazing. One thing, though, is that I decided early on that I couldn't believe these kids were 17, so in my head they're more around 25 years old. It did make me look twice when their age was mentioned, but nothing terrible. I'm so glad the ebook I bought also has Crooked Kingdom.

LAHSOSJDOJSKAKD OH MY GOODNESS

I honestly don’t even know if I can put it into words the feelings this book gave me. If I had the ability to, I don’t doubt that I would’ve finished this within a few days. Sadly, though, schooling got in the way of that :(

This was the first book in so long that made we want to stay up until the early hours of the morning reading. I haven’t been so enraptured in a story in a while and this was so much fun!! I got so attached to these characters in ways I really wasn’t expecting and the amount of times my jaw dropped, I made inhuman noises, or I simply clutched at my chest because of the PAIN this book inflicted is INSANE.

I have so many other books left on my TBR but there’s a very high possibility I might force my mom to drive me to Barnes and Noble tomorrow to go pick up “Crooked Kingdom” and the entire “Shadow and Bone” trilogy.

Can’t wait for the show to come out but definitely need to read all the others before I watch it!

There is a lot of the darker side of the human experience covered in this book, and it can be gruesome at times.

It also tells stories of overcoming that violence and trauma without diminishing the fact that damage has been done and is not wiped away forever in a state of "having recovered".

I loved the well-written and very subtle foreshadowing carefully laced throughout the story with tremendous pay-off.

I do not give out 5 star ratings lightly and my lord this is probably one of the best books I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. The plot on its own is gripping, thrilling, and complex. Add in the authors perfect balance of detailed descriptions and witty humor, along with some of the most riveting character I’ve ever  fallen in love with, and you have a magical story.

I cannot recommend this book enough, I’m only sorry I’ve spent so long sleeping on it. There were moments where I felt pure disgust and dread at the fate of the wonderfully portrayed character, and other times when I felt elated and joyful at their blooming relationship, platonic and otherwise.

This story will take you down fanatical twists and turns that you didn’t know a human brain could scheme up. I’m so obsessed, this is an absolute MUST READ!
