Both Stylistically and conceptually, this novella is quite similar to Dead Souls. However Chekhov cleverly addresses bleakness of the world that's so similar to Tolstoy, in a succinct manner.

It's what a young idealistic person would feel on Twitter; an idealistic lonely fish in an ocean of moral hypocrisy. This may not be Chekhov's standout work but it's still pretty enjoyable.
