If you have read one of the other dozen NUMA books you know exactly what to expect. If you haven't, think an Indiana Jones novel as it might have been written by John D. McDonald and you won't go far wrong, His heroes are all tanned and virile, his heroines are all highly educated, athletic and built like Barbie. The sex is all PG. His villains are very bad--think James Bond. There is always a passing nod to historical and scientific fad, treated the way in the same slapdash manner as a Bond novel or an Indiana Jones novel would treat them.

When I chose to pick this book up after seating on my shelf for years, I believed I was picking up a mystery novel that centered around an Acient Egyptain myth. While in the broad scope of the story this is true, in the fine details and actions it was at best a secondary plot point. Now while that disappointed me little bit I found the over-all story fast paced, action packed, and easy to read. Which made it overall and engaging and enjoyable read. While I enjoied this individual story I will probably not be picking up any other books in this series or by this author again

Kurt and Joe, members of NUMA, come across an island that where a black mist has made people appear dead. They start searching for the cause and an antidote. Meanwhile their colleagues, Paul and Gamay, find that all the lakes and reservoirs in places in Africa are drying up. They go on the hunt to discover the reason. Both teams end up with bad guys chasing them. Kurt send Paul and Gamay to France to help him while he and Joe are busy with their search. They come across some underground caverns where water is being pumped out of the reservoirs into the Nile in an effort to collapse governments by drying up their countries and then the bad guys can install their own governments. There are all treasures found in the caverns and it is all connected to the black mist.
Lots of action and the good guys win as always.
