I received this as an arc for my honest review

This was a very exciting story with a loved of twist and turns. I haven’t read the first book in the series but it works well on its own. I enjoyed the story and the way the relationship between Trista and Michail progressed, it seemed natural. I really want to read more stories like this.

I was intrigued by this book when I saw the blurb and I had to read it. This is a series of standalones so even though I hadn't read the first book in the series I didn't feel lost but I loved this one so much I plan to circle back and read it.

Trista is on the run from an abusive ex and she is trying to start over in Russia thanks to her connection to Dema. She ends up working as a receptionist at Pins & Needles and she quickly attracts the attention of Michail but she is so closed off. He isn't aware initially of her abuse but he grew up in an abusive household so he starts to spots the signs and it brings out the protective side in him. Can Michail help Trista recover from her past or will she always be forced to look over her shoulder?

This book was definitely emotional but it was such a good read. I thought the author did a great job with Michail's character, his past definitely made him the perfect man for Trista. If I could change anything about the book, I would just to see more of these two cause I wasn't ready for it to be over. I would definitely recommend this story but just know there is abuse in it which could be triggering to some.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is an emotional story and second addition to the Pins and Needles: Moscow series. Michail and Trista are very well developed and written characters. They have amazing dynamics. There is drama, danger and suspense. This is a great read.

Blood & Torment by Elizabeth Knox and E.C. Land picks up with Kronid's right hand man Michail. He works hard for Kronid. Kronid grew up on a household where his dad abused his mom. He felt helpless. When she died Michail took this sister Mika and left to raise her on his own. Trista is beat up by her ex boyfriend, Jacob, whenever she tries to leave. He tells her he will always find her and bring her back. He is a master of psychological abuse getting her to believe his words. He tells her she is worthless. Dema, Kronid's wife and Trista's best friend asks Trista to come live in Russia. The night after a particularly bad beating, she pick ups and gets away. Hiding her scars she is now working as a receptionist at the tattoo parlor.

Trista brings out Michail's protective side. We see how his parents' relationship affects his thoughts of love and marriage. Trista confuses him because he can't help but feel it might be love. Trista is always looking over her shoulder for Jacob. Would he follow her around the world?

The story reads quickly. It is book 2 in the Pins and Needles: Moscow series. The characters from book one are throughout. While it would be better to read books in order, I am not sure it is absolutely necessary. While violence is alluded to it is not a high level but there are the abuse triggers that should be paid attention to. While this story didn't pack the same punches as the first one Blood & Torment is still a great addition to the series.
