You know when a book is amazing when you finish it in less than 24 hours. Enough said.

Ohmysweetgoodness! Galen is so adorable. Every thing he does, I find adorable. I wish he was real and I know him because I want to pinch his cheeks for being to damn adorable. Every character is also likable/lovable, even Rayna, Galen's twin, who seems to be the mean girl type. But for 20-year-old twins, they seem immature, especially Rayna. I still love all the characters presented in this novel, even Emma's mom who makes funny remarks.

I like that one chapter is on Emma's first-person POV while the other is a narrative on Galen's POV and would include Rayna and Toraf too. The plot is predictable but still good nonetheless. Each page turn makes me giddy with excitement and I would find myself smiling while reading. The description is correct, it really is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

OH. MY. GOD. OH.MY.GOD! OHMYGOOOOOD!!!!

WHAT A CLIFFHANGER. WHAT A FREAKIN CLIFFHANGER! OH.MY.GOD! I THINK I AM GOING TO DIE.

Okay. So I knew what was going to happen [it was predictable anyway] but there's still that feeling you get when you find out you were right all along. OH.MY.GOD. What is going to happen now? OHNOES!

Obviously I can't write a decent review so I'll come back later when I've calmed down. OHMYGOD!!! Triton's trident! WHAT THE FUUUDGE!!!

I loved this book aside from the fact that Emma annoying me so much and how many times she said, "Ohmysweetgoodness."

Plot:

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom…

Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humour, and waves of romance.

My Thoughts:

I picked up this book with literally no expectations. I’d never read a mermaid book before and to be terribly honest, I had no interest in reading this one.

What drew me to the book in the first place was its divine cover. I adored the picture of the girl swimming in the water with her hair flowing behind her and I was quite fond of the font that the title was printed in.

Another reason I bought it was because my local Dymocks was poorly stocked and I had to choose between ‘Of Poseidon’ and ‘The Awakening’ so I went for the book that looked less painful to read…

Don’t get me wrong, I love The Vampire Diaries show on the CW but I cannot stand the book series. The first two books made me want to gouge my eyes out, but that’s another story for another time

Of Poseidon is about a teenage girl by the name of Emma who, on vacation in Florida with her best friend Chloe, trips on the side walk and falls directly into a smoking hot boy by the name of Galen.

Galen is a mermaid who, also, just so happens to be one of the princes of Poseidon. Galen and Emma feel an instant connection, however, they can’t be together because Emma is human, or so she thinks…

I didn’t enjoy the first half of the book. I got annoyed with Emma easily, especially because of her tendencies to blush every time Galen uttered a word and because she was always falling over.

Galen on the other hand was at least, a little bit better. He definitely started out as an awkward, teenage boy who had no clue how to understand women. However, his character progressed majorly throughout the novel and Galen became a boy I would have had a major crush on if I was Emma.

Even though I may not have quite liked the two main characters, I did particularly like two of the background characters: Toraf, Galen’s best friend and Rayna, Galen’s twin sister.

Up until page 177, I strongly disliked (on the verge of hating) the book. I didn’t like the writing style, the flipping from Emma’s point of view in first person to Galen’s point of view in third person was very confusing and I felt like the story was dragging along and that the plot line had no substance.

However, by about half way through, it picked up rather quickly and I ended up flying through the rest of the novel in lightning speed. I finished desperately wanting more.

I can’t wait to pick up the next book of the trilogy, ‘Of Triton’ and I hope it’s as amazing as ‘Of Poseidon’.
