For all fans of the TV series, I warn you it's very different. It was still very good, I like the drawings. I'm not very good in English, but it was still very easy to read. I can't wait to read the next book.

This is okay. I like Allred's art and the story is interesting enough, just feels like it's missing personality.

This volume introduces us to Gwen, a zombie, and her various undead friends (ghosts, werewolves, mummies, etc). While good ideas are rampant throughout the volume, the writing is a bit uneven at times. Some of the dialogue feels very unnatural and the pacing between panels speeds up and slows down oddly. A great start to a great idea but certainly one with some flaws.

Fun read! As the television series is drawing to a close, I finally thought to pick up the source material. Glad I did, as other than the general premise (girl as zombie), the plot is almost completely different.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No

There is almost no resemblance to the TV series, not even the name of the main character. I love Liv Moore, and I'm starting to warm up to Gwen Dylan.

There are so many supernatural creatures in the comics which is really good even though I liked the human characters in the show.

Well, that was a damned interesting comic book lol I love the fact it's very female heavy which you find lacking at times in comics. I made the mistake of watching the show first and it's very much different from the show! We have vampires and were creatures in the comic and so far I've only seen the zombie like folks. We know what Gwen is in the comics, and in the show they don't really give it a name they blame a drug for it. Which I get it, it's the whole don't do drugs kids or you'll turn into a brain eating zombie lol I'll be continuing this series because it's very interesting!

Not the greatest comic I've ever read, but since I already have the first few volumes (I bought them for my wife because she loves the show (I haven't watched it yet)) I'll press on. It's interesting enough that I'm willing to go on, but don't expect anything wildly original or exciting from this first volume - It's good, funny, and there are enough plot-lines to keep some intrigue. Mike Allred's art is the same as it ever was - Great comic book artist, but I have to wonder if he just has a few character templates he consistently works off of as I actually got confused for a moment and thought I was reading conversations between Dead Girl and Vivisector in old issues of X-Force / X-Statix, and not Gwen and Spot...

If I could review this story in one word: BOOORING.

It was nothing more than a brief introduction to the series and the characters. Much of the story is spent learning each of the character's traits and the death of a nonsignificant character. Listen, I love dialogue-heavy books. Let's be honest. I spend most of my time "dialoguing" with other people but damn, there is so much I can take. I want some action, some movement of the plot, SOMETHING.

The only character that really stood out to me was Ellie, but only because she was a ghost (Beetlejuice anyone?). This is, in the most basic terms, a fluff story. A zombie fluff story.

Let's be honest here: when I don't like something, I can be a bit (read: overly) harsh. I will admit that the seeds that were planted for the next story installment will pick up the pace. Plus it's beautifully drawn. That's the main attraction for graphic novels right? How it's drawn? I enjoyed looking at it more than I did reading it ha.

Final Verdict: BORING BORING BORING.
